Echinacea Angustifolia

Echinacea angustifolia is the highest quality and most praised of all the Echinacea species. Long noted as an immune enhancer, Echinacea is native to North America and has a well documented medicinal history. Native Americans have used it for centuries for a number of diseases, including infirmities of the mouth, gums and teeth, the respiratory system and general inflammations.

First made popular by American Eclectic doctors of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, Echinacea soon found renown in Europe where the science of the herb was studied. By the 1980s there were more than 400 research studies on Echinacea and hundreds of medicinal products in use world wide. It is commonly used to boost the immune system by stimulating the production of white blood cells, and is know to fight infection. Recently, it has demonstrated effectiveness as an anti-viral and antifungal agent.

Echinacea’s active compounds include polysaccharides, cichoric acid, isobutylamides and both water and fat soluble constituents. These compounds may assist the body’s fight against infection, and are found in the root of the plant.
