Garlic with EPA is a combination of allicin rich, odorless garlic and Marine Lipids rich in EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)and DHA.(docosahexaenoic acid). Together, they may provide some cardiovascular benefit and help to regulate blood triglycerides. Garlic is famous for its ability to regulate fats and triglycerides in the body. It has the ability to improve the ration of “beneficial” cholesterol, HDLs to “bad” cholesterol, LDLs, and clinical trials have demonstrated its ability to lower total cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. It also has a strong antithrombotic or anti-clotting activity which is at least as effective as aspirin without the potential upset stomach. Interestingly, garlic also acts as a mild vasodilator, expanding the arterial pathway that blood flows through from the heart to the body’s extremities. This effect can have positive effects on blood pressure, thereby reducing strain on the heart. Increasing medical evidence indicates that fish and fish oils are among the healthiest foods in our diets. One 20 year mortality study with 852 men documented that higher fish consumption lowered the risk of coronary heart disease. Other studies point to the Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil as responsible for the improvement to the cardiovascular system. The active components in fish oils (marine lipids) are the Omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, and they are considered responsible for the low rate of coronary artery disease among fish eaters. Omega-3 fatty acids are also associated with lower incidence of stroke and cancer. Since the American population eats a proportionally small amount of fish and fish products as a percentage of their daily diet, supplementing with marine lipids rich in Omega-3s is good protection for the heart.* * These statements have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug administration.
